Special Advisor
The Special Advisor provides strategic guidance, subject matter expertise, and thought leadership to support the strategic direction of the Vancouver Local Immigration Partnership (VLIP) promoting innovation and practices that improve settlement, integration, and belonging for newcomers in Vancouver.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Strategic Guidance: Provide expert advice on immigration trends, emerging policies, and evolving community needs to support VLIP’s strategic planning and implementation.
- Council Participation: Attend VLIP Council meetings when available to observe, to offer insights and contribute to key discussions.
- Community Engagement: Participate in VLIP's small and large community gatherings and collaborative projects (if available)
- Thought Leadership: Share relevant knowledge, research, and best practices to inform VLIP initiatives and strengthen the capacity of partners across the immigration and settlement sectors.

Special Advisor
Joni Rose
Joni Rose has over 30 years of combined experience in adult education, corporate training, human resources and government program design and procurement.
Prior to joining the provincial government, she has developed, administered and led training programs for the Surrey School Board, Douglas College and The University of BC. She has worked as a Co-operative Education Coordinator for both SFU and Kwantlen. As a consultant, she has also developed training for corporate clients and was a career coach and online author for nine years. She also taught Adult Basic Education (English, biology, math, GED prep, and career planning) at the college and school board level.
She joined the BC Government in 2009 as the WelcomeBC Training Manager and was tasked with developing a plan to train WelcomeBC service workers. When settlement services were devolved to the federal government, her role changed to managing the Skills Connect program and redesigning it into the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants program. She is now a Senior Program Advisor for Strategic Projects and managed the Refugee Readiness Fund and is responsible for a varied portfolio of projects when changes occur in immigration.
